Insatiable curiosity

We explore the construction site that's appeared in the garden. Sand, bags of cement and steel reinforcing bars are all sniffed. The builders plan to pour concrete for the foundations later today. They will then return when the stone tiles arrive. The tiles are coming from Turkey but the man at the builders merchants informs me ' the supplier has never been late'.  Angus , being a dour Presbyterian thinks to himself ' There's always a first time'. He keeps this thought to himself. For the time being he'll worry about twenty square metres of freshly poured concrete and the certainty that this will arouse Sophie's insatiable ' What's going on here ? ' interest.

As we head out of the gate the first of the autumn fogs starts to rise out of the ground.Sophie wonders if it's alright. I reassure her that it is.

After a half an hour across country the fog is thicker and Sophie is caked in mud. Why, oh why , did I ever think a female PON might want to avoid muddy puddles ? The two friendly  horses appear out of what, is by now, quite a thick fog. Friendly they may be but Sophie pretends to ignore them. Horses , like cows, can appear intimidatingly large when close up.

The new mayor arrives at the gate. ' I've got the flags to put out. Could I borrow your ladder ?'. Mayors may come and go but ladders are always in fashion.

Between Brexit and Covid we're not sure whether shipments from the UK will arrive ' flawlessly ' in France this Christmas. To be well prepared and safe we order a Christmas cake and pudding from these folk   https://megrivers.co.uk/collections/christmas   and alliums from here ( all their alliums are good but the Red Mohicans wonderful) :https://www.peternyssen.com/autumn-planting/alliums.html  .Both arrive within three days of placing the order.

This could be my favorite photo of Sophie ever - she is just so obviously hyperaware of the horses she is "ignoring." Too bad that Loic and his friends were not around for the concrete pouring, I bet they would have enjoyed it. The Red Mohican alliums look lovely - the name is very appropriate to the flower, although it probably wouldn't pass the political correctness test in the US. These are strange times - I was thinking I might include a link to the newly-established Twitter account for Joe Biden's dogs, Champ and Major, which was quite great when I looked at it the other day, but when I went to look for it again just now, I realized it's already been suspended. I wonder why?

Lovely photos of the fog-shrouded village.
Fingers and paws crossed here that the tiles arrive from Turkey as punctually as the Christmas cake and alliums...

We see that you are still the "go to" for ladders!
We, too, hope that the tiles from Turkey arrive with all due haste, and that the building work won't turn into a saga of epic proportions! Every time I see a commercial for Mercedes' new electric van on TV, I think of the ROF, Angus!
The Christmas cakes and goodies look scrumptious, but the cost between a plain cake and one just covered in plan icing, with no decoration, seems somewhat excessive to me! Tempted to buy a plain one and decorate it myself.

Lovely pics of Sophie Pon today and hoping your tiles arrive in good time.
Since the onset of the pandemic I've found deliveries for the most part to be better; complacency replaced by a sense of urgency.
I'll check out those Red Mohicans.

Been lots of fog in Auld Reekie, too... rather like it actually, despite having to use the lights all day. I too pray the tiles live up to announcements!!! YAM xx

Am told the haar has been ambling in off the North Sea and making St.Andrews 'atmospheric'.

Deliveries in France are always slow. Some from the UK are reliable and quick. Other firms have invested in a website but have given zero thought about what to do once the order is ready for shipment.

The plain one is a simnel cake without the 'apostles'. I find it easier to digest than the one that's iced all over. That's another sad indication I'm turning into my father.

We can but live in hope and the efficiency of a Turkish quarry.

I fear Champ and Malors twitter account may have not passed the 'gravitas' test.
