Late on Wednesday afternoon the workmen start digging up the road. They work for an hour. During this time they sever the villages power line and the fibre optic cable. They then leave.
Thursday is a bank holiday in France. The power and the phone companies aren't working. French holidays are religiously and rigourously observed. The utilities answer phone message tells us to ' call back later'.
We are without power - which 'The Font' thinks is romantic in a ' eighteenth century' type way. We dine outside by candlelight and cook on the barbecue. The allure of cold showers is short lived.
Earlier today we are reconnected to the electrical grid.
A few moments ago the internet and phone sprang back into life.
Sophie has risen at first light and gone to sleep when the sun sets.

So glad all is well! I knew there would be a funny story ;)
Phew! Thanks for update!,
Romantic only goes do far. We have no back up systems in city dwelling Greece, but we do have sun-heated water which works exceedingly well in the height of Summer when all you wish for is a truly cold shower!
I apparently have a mild obsession with a Polish Lowland Sheepdog and her family and can stop with the incessant checking in. Welcome back.
Well, your time off grid sounds as if it was well spent! Glad you're back.
Welcome back! Now that an important blog post is released, you can take a hot shower!
So glad you're connected back to the world and all is well at the ROF.
So happy to see your post. And happy you have power and internet service once again.
Sheila
Wonderful news. I wrote earlier with show anonymous for some strange reason.. I mentioned internet could be down. You have always told us when you would be away.
Missed all of your daily sharing with us.
So glad you are up and writing again.
Thank goodness all is OK! I worry about my cyber furry friend and her non-furry people.

Phew... you realise now that you cannot go AWOL without Blogville raising a ruckus!!! So relieved that all this was, was a 'romantic' interlude for Angus and co... YAM xx
So very happy all is ok!
Those silly and careless workers caused many of your followers to fidget and worry ourselves to pieces for a while there. If only they knew! But the fresh post and seeing sweet Sophie's face peeking around the curtained doorway was such a welcome relief. Good story and as always, never a dull moment at the ROF.
Such good news , glad to see you back .
Candlelit barbeques sound nice! Did the old farmer manage OK without power for cooking, for his TV, and for being able to turn on lots of lights in the middle of the night?
The comment above about the old farmer was from "Riley the Retriever" but posted as unknown for some reason.
Thank you Angus!
Okay. So Sophie's recent illness may have us all a "little on edge". :-)
So happy that you are all well. XXX
Grateful all is some what back to normal at TROF. Thank you for updating us.
Thank you for letting us know what had happened. I lost count of the times I checked for a new post.
I can never decide if my preference is for power to go out when it's hot or cold. But what I can decide about, is that I like being able to drive to get whatever we nay need. Glad all is restored - the upcoming storms predicted for us today have me prepared, just in case.
Ditto to all above!
So glad power has been restored. Your time off the grid sounds too much like our hurricane season experiences so we truly can identify.
We missed you, and Angus also. So glad to have you back.
That's a marvellous picture of Sophie, possibly my all time favourite.
