Sprinting home.

Five thirty. There's a lunar eclipse this morning. It's low on the horizon and just above the tree line so finding it is surprisingly  difficult. There's an unexpected bonus. The Space Station catches the rising sun and lumbers across the sky in front of us like a slow motion shooting star. Three local farmers drive by on their tractors. They see us standing in the garden and wave. You can almost hear them thinking how odd these foreigners are to be staring upwards at a featureless sky at this unearthly hour.

As we're up early, and its cool, Sophie gets a trip to the modern bakers in the big car.

No croissants yet. The baker is still waiting for them to come out of the oven. We do however get a, still warm, pain au raisin. The family diva  gets some sugar and raisin free 'edges'. This variation to her diet is accepted with enthusiasm. The pain au raisin has a 'crunch' you don't get with croissants.

White asparagus in the greengrocers. Usually it sells out quickly but this morning there is a mountain of the stuff. Go figure.

Back in the village we take a walk down to the Holy Oak. Then we retrace our steps back up the hill to the church. By this time it's already in the high teens and getting steamy. Guess that means it will be in the mid-30's by lunchtime.

Sophie picks up her pace as the heat builds.

Up on the village green she's fairly sprinting along. This morning she doesn't even bother to turn around to make sure I'm keeping up. Breakfast in the cool awaits ! For this girl priorities are priorities ! Soon Angus will close all the shutters to keep the heat out.

Courtesy of Nobby, I mad an unscheduled visit into the garden at around 3:30 am. Dawn was breaking but light cloud obscured any view of the eclipse. In Northern Scotland there's very little darkness at this time of year, but we struggle to achieve temperatures higher than the teens. I think Nobby would enjoy a more Mediterranean climate.

Rainy and cloudy in Tokyo, although I don't think the eclipse was visible in Asia in any event. It's the start of the rainy season here. We had a few brilliant warm and sunny days and then, just when I start thinking Tokyo weather isn't really not that bad, it suddenly became cold and wet, which is where it will stay until early June, when it will become hot and wet. Charlie loves to be wet, at any temperature, so at least someone is enjoying this.

An early heavy mist today so no chance to see the eclipse. The mist came down at sunset last night and we thought it would be gone by morning. Just 20º when we set off on our walk at 8:30. Warming up now and the hazy sun is slowly breaking through. After our dreadful exceptionally wet, cold winter, I've had the windows and shutters closed in most rooms, so welcome a chance to let some fresh air in.
Pain au raisin makes a nice change from curly croissants ends but it can be a chore to pick out all the raisins! Inca wants to know why she can't have those too! I do love to see your fresh vegetables piled high, here they are almost all wrapped in plastic.

Hi everyone.

Thank you for battling with the 'random' commenting function.

Nothing like 3:30 am 'comfort break' walks in the garden in the small hours.

The luna eclipse was underwhelming so Tokyo residents didn't miss anything.

After the same could and wet winter we seem to be moving straight into high temperatures and a drought.

I set the alarm for the 'blood moon' ... only to meet the situation normal sky over the Hutch; hill to hill blanket cloud and precipitation to equal any garden hose. I returned to bed and then slept like a log until half an hour ago - and the situation remains as normal outside that window!!! No extreme temps here. Now to sort out my day which is half gone.......
