The mountains of coronation biscuit tins in the supermarket aisles have suddenly gone. The lady at the check-out says that there has been a last minute surge of interest in this weekends events. All that is left on the coronation shelves are some red, white and blue freezer bags.
Usually Sophie is up before me but the sound of the wind howling around the chimneys has put her in full on 'cozy' mood. This morning she's curled up in her bed and dreaming about chasing squirrels. Every so often she quivers and emits a small squeak.
Union flag bunting has appeared in the village. In the strong easterly wind the flags, carefully strung across the lane at a height that allows the postmans new van to pass underneath, are bobbing up and down like corks on the ocean. By the old school house we meet the young Asian professor of medieval history. She was used at the late Queens funeral to explain the ceremonies to a more 'diverse' television audience. Later this morning she'll be heading south to do the same again. She thinks the words 'magical' and 'weird' are the best words to describe the coronation ceremony. The memories and experience of a thousand years reappearing unapologetically in a tech driven world.

"Weird" is I think an adjective that will come to mind for a lot of folk watching tomorrow's Coronation ceremony. Portaloos and picnic tables being installed in Duthie Park this morning in preparation for the weekend festivities.
I look forward to reading your account of the King's coronation and celebrations where you live in Scotland. Are the Font, or others, making a Coronation Quiche for dinner Saturday night? Where will you watch the ceremony, and will there be enough to drink on the night up to your usual standard? Also, will Sophie get a special treat to mark a day many people will remember for years, or will it just be business as usual for her?
Our water here is heavily chlorinated. An unappealing smell of bleach when the tap is turned on, so I invested in a drinking water purifying system which gives me tasteless water with no smell. It's certainly paid for itself, I'm still using the original filter.
In spite of all the media attention, I'd quite forgotten that the Coronation is tomorrow. It's been completely overshadowed by my traumatic search for a rescue dog. I've already covered over 600kms, in a 50 km radius from home and haven't even scratched the surface of the number of rescues. Heartbreaking in some cases - so many dogs and so few people wanting to adopt them.
Coppa Girl - You can be sure that a lot of people that read this blog will be following you quest for a rescue dog every kilometre of the way ! When the time comes you will know.

Sending some POTP to Coppa's Girl for this search; way more impawtant on the personal level than shenanigans in London... YAM xx
It's 7 AM here and since about 5:30 I've already heard every half-hour about the Coronation, and that coverage begins at 5 AM. I'll be watching.
And I'm taken a bit by blurbs on social media about an upcoming art project in September around St Andrews and the Northeast Fife Coast, that giant Scottie Dog sculptures will be appearing that will be decorated by local artists and communities. ??
***And I'm cheering on Coppa's Girl! ❤
Lovely to see Sophie sleeps with her toy - or was that incidental?
Kim at Golden Pines - There's a cancer hospice designed by Frank Gehry north of here. Starting in September there will be 30 large Scotty dog sculptures put around town. Each will be decorated by an artist and sold off at auction with the proceeds going to the hospice. This has apparently attracted the attention of the 'Scotty world'. September is the peak time for golfers and the time when the weather is at its best so there is hope that the auction will be a success.
Looking forward to hearing and seeing it all.
We are in Chicago visiting my daughter and will be up at 5:00 a.m. CT to watch the coronation.
To Coppa's girl...my daughter found the perfect rescue dog 14 years ago; he is now 17. Here's to your search to find the pup that is just right for you and your caring heart.
Coppa’s girl, Angus is right. We are all following your quest to find your doggie to share love with!
We are following Coppa's search and also sending POTP to aid it! Otto, my magnificent male rottie whom I got for free from a rescue just turned 10. He is the love of my life! It took time and there was a lot of driving involved, but he eded up being just a few miles away.
As I recall, my SodaStream canisters lasted several weeks, but they were expensive to replace.
Coppa's girl, I'm hoping you will soon find the companion meant for you. Angus, I trust the champagne arrived. We've been so focused on the coronation for such a long time, it's hard to believe it will all be over after tomorrow.
Thank you Angus, and to all of you for your kind thoughts and good wishes. I think i may have found the right companion, though I've only seen videos of her so far. My fingers are tightly crossed that when we meet we'll get on well and she'll come home.
The backsplash tiles are so attractive and lovely how they coordinate with photos you have shared of other rooms in your home. A fan in the US, of Sophie and of tasteful decorating.
I just read that Coppas girl may have found her rescue girl. My Joey, rescued at 13 and happily snoozing on his way to 17, is a furry witness to the special love and joy a rescue embodies. All the best Coppas girl!!!! As for tomorrow's event, Angus you might want to look for the May 8 issue of The New Yorker with its King Charles cover by Barry Blitt, known for his caricatures of various presidents and other folks in power, and then an interesting article about Charles' evolution. See y'all tomorrow at 5 am EDT.
I too will be looking forward to your take on the coronation. Here in TO, interest is rising to tepid, superseded I suspect, by the Toronto Leafs finally qualifying for the second round of the Stanley Cup play-offs. (For the uninitiated amongst us, the Stanley Cup is hockey's Holy Graal)
This is history in the making though
Coppa's Girl, thinking of you and wishing you, and an as of yet unknown canine, the best on your quest. Somedoggy is going to have a good landing...
Please, keep us posted
Although my husband and I are diehard republicans we're
actually going to a friends' house to watch the
coronation (it's on in the evening here in Australia).
I just hope no one brings one of those awful sounding
quiches!
