A big day.

Rite of passage time. The weekend before the new semester starts. Parents dropping off their children by car. Others arriving from the station by cab. Everyone seems to have bought new pillows from Marks and Spencers. Are they no longer provided ? No parking signs have been put up to keep the traffic flowing - but they are being ignored. A large Mercedes tries to drive up to the front door of one of the residences with 'Don't you know who I am?' bravado. The traffic warden is unimpressed as only a Scottish traffic warden can be. " Whits yer problem Pal ? Can ye no sees the signs ?"  The Mercedes retreats. Our local florist is having a great day. Fathers , uncertain what to do, are buying their daughters bouquets of flowers. Give it two or three weeks and the daughters will get round to throwing them out.

The Scottish weather is at its best. If it wasn't for the presence of the pipers outside the Baptist church you'd be forgiven for thinking you were in the South of France. Innocent students will be lulled into thinking this is how it's always  going to be but give it a month and the isobars that link the climate to Northern Norway will reappear.

We track down more Scotties.  The one by the 1st tee of the Old Course decked out in tartan plus fours.

Another one with a golfing theme is looking out over the 'sacred' turf .

The artist has added a touch of humour - this Scottie has a golf ball in its mouth.

We would go in search of the remaining sculptures but between visitors to the Walker Cup and families depositing their teenagers the streets are thronged and progress slow.  By the time the sun is setting we've seen more than  a  few  'emotional' farewells. That sudden ' How did they grow up so quickly ?' moment. Mothers dab their eyes. Fathers look uncomfortable. Younger siblings stand around looking bored. " Call me if you need anything " said a thousand times. The students seem, in general, keen to get on with their lives.

Back at the 'Last wee house before Denmark' we open a rather good Sancerre rose and sit in the garden watching the birds heading south down the coast. 'The Font' spots a solitary swallow. The last of the summer ?

And here just a brief clip to let you see just how wonderful the weather has been  :https://youtu.be/-go2WVEnyg0?t=284

That really is the best possible place to sit and enjoy the sunset over a glass or two of wine. Sadly there's just one thing missing - a certain PON diva.
The Scotties outfits are excellent.

Of course there would be a Scottie wearing plus fours in St Andrews. Nobby is more impressed by the one with the ball in his mouth. Here in Aberdeen, we are also enjoying the splendid late summer weather.

I predict now that the putting green Scottie will be the biggest earner at the auction! YAM xx

In my social media world, photos of the Scotties by the Sea are very few and far between. But the first one, is one I did see, and it's paying homage to Elvis - You ain't nothin but a hound dog.... I guess. They all are "wowing me!!" The golfing one made me laugh!

Our weather is mirroring yours. The county that I live in (Loudoun) is reporting that we are in a “moderate drought” and water levels are below normal at the town’s reservoir. We are on a well, and are always mindful of the amount of water we use.

So you can watch both the sunrise and the sunset from the grounds of the LWHBD. Well, on reflection, I guess we all can, just no ocean involvement. I love the Putting Green Scottie and the Dia de los Muertos Scottie the most so far! Enjoy your beautiful weather. It's been raining in SoCal these past few days! Hey, no drought and decreased fire danger. Very nice. Though BOTH of my dogs are convinced that they well MELT should they be touched by a single drop of rain.
