Counts as excitement.
High summer in France. A time when musical ensembles across the country leave the big cities and head out to entertain the citizens of France profonde. The notice board outside the town hall plastered with posters advertising excitement to come.
Angus wonders what The Glory Gospel Singers of New York, USA will make of a local audience.
Dinners in a local farmers barn with rustic music and even more rustic wine for E45. Parisians love this sort of thing. A sort of get back to your roots moment.
A moorhen wanders out onto the water lilly leaves and looks at me disinterestedly. I take a photo. You'd need to be a clairvoyant to see it standing there. They are remarkably well camouflaged birds. Sophie, who has been drinking at the zinc bath, arrives and the bird dutifully scurries back into the undergrowth. 0/10 for nature photography.
There is a pony in the overgrown field by the churchyard. It wanders over to greet the PONs.
This counts as excitement in our little touch of paradise.
The angelic duo watch as I unravel the hose and top the pool up with water. Moorhens, a new pony and now some pool refilling. Quite the start to the day.

I see a little splotch of brown on the water lilies, lower left quadrant of the picture. Am I getting warm?
Another great day in your neck of the woods.
A gospel group comes to a village nearby, where the local music teacher/choir director is very into it. One day last summer, I translated for an American woman struggling to ask a question in H&M in Toulouse and learned she was visiting as part of a gospel tour. She seemed to like the shopping, even though H&M is all over the U.S. Maybe the groups get to stay in a city and fan out to shows across the area.
I don't think of Brel (who was Belgian) or Brassens as rustic. Brel was very jazzy for the '60s. Maybe Brassens is a little rustic, but what wonderful lyrics. BTW, Bécaud's real surname was Silly!!!!!
And which of the high summer entertainments will beat moorhens, a new pony and a spot of pool refilling?
Angus, he chickens in the photo in yesterday's post.... where did you get them, please?
Oathlaw Pottery near Brechin
Probably. The male is black and white, his mate a camouflage heavy brown. Bad for photographers, great for moorhens.

Nope. The moorhen is standing on the very left of 'the mat' of lily leaves right beside that bullrushes, almost dead-centre of the image. (Clicking to biggify helped to confirm this - on-screen magnifier helped further!). The little splotch of brown appears to be underwater and all this other green on the surface looks more like duckweed to me. As far as this birder is concerned, this is your best shot yet Angus! YAM xx
I think you've done enough for one day - Time to just take it easy. Here's it too hot to do much else.
Well spotted !
I think you are lucky there as one blogger in France has water restrictions and is not allowed to top up pool water.
Having a deep well is a must have !
Quite a line up of entertainment coming to an area near you!
