Things are looking up. This morning we wake to cloudy skies, coolish temperatures and a hint of a breeze. A good enough combination to justify heading off with the PONette to see the donkeys in their field.
On our way back Sophie detours into a drainage ditch in search of something 'delectable. . The ditch is rather deeper and narrower than she'd anticipated so there is a slight delay while she extricates herself, inelegantly, from it. Once again Angus quietly marvels at the resiliency of her titanium knees.
This mornings croissant still warm. Out of the oven for two, maybe three, minutes. I'd give it a 9.4/10. Sophie gives it a tail waving 15.
By the time we're back home the solid layer of cloud is burning off to be replaced by some bubbly clouds that hold out the promise of thunder. I take a case of Badoit across to The Old Farmer. He's not been out in his car these last three days . I'm worried he's not eating but he claims to have a freezer stocked to the hilt. He's also getting meals delivered by the meals on wheels service but he considers these to be 'inedible' and the woman who delivers them ' as bossy as Hitler'. The Old Mayor has taken to looking in on him in the evenings.
A blast from the past. This morning Sophie and Angus headed off for their morning croissant singing, windows down, to this on Radio Nostalgie :https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7yHTpGog0IY

I'd been wondering about that decision. Now I'm wondering about the Ponette's new adventures. There's much to consider for a daily stroll. Also in my thoughts are the Old Farmer and the Old Mayor and his wife.
This must have been a difficult decision, but it will be fun to watch where this new adventure takes you. We are also planning to launch ourselves in a new direction next year, after more than 30 years in Tokyo. Somehow we've managed to accumulate so much stuff over the years (including the parrots) that moving has become a very daunting project. I am very happy I will be able to rely on you and the Font for inspiration whenever I feel like throwing up my hands.
Have you decided where to go, next?
I wish you joy, content and adventure.
It's really happening! I can't help but feel sad, while also intrigued to find out what new adventures are planned.
Cheers, Gail.
Oho! I wondered if you'd accept the challenge - it's going to be a very busy month. When will you break the news to the village? There will be some very sad faces.
Am I right thinking Sophie has lost weight... or has she just had an extreme summer haircut?
Rather sad to hear you are definitely moving on. I've so enjoyed sharing your daily walks and the search for the elusive 10/10 croissant - oh and those cakes too!
However I look forward to joining you on new adventures, in pastures new. I'm sorry for all those who have shared your life in your little corner of paradise in France Profonde - you, 'The Font' and Sophie be very much missed. Where will they find a reliable keeper of the key to the Church?
I am sad to see you leave this little village and its folk, but not surprised, as it seems a change has been on your minds, if in the background. I, too, am looking forward to seeing where you land.

I join the chorus... one thing I know for sure; wherever you land, you will find the quaint, the eccentric and the profound to share with us. Sunflowers, though. Will there be sunflowers? YAM xx
A break in the weather, a warm croissant, and adventures ahead. Love the sunflowers.
So happy for you.
Wherever you go, we wish you all good health.
Been waiting on the house news! Thrilled to be along for the next set of adventures.
To everyone - thank you for your thoughts. The Font will be heading off to look at ( and if needs be bid ) on a small house in a village of 80 souls surrounded on 3 sides by sea. It is the time to downsize and focus on somewhere smaller and hopefully slightly less rickety.
Yamini - there may be fields of wild lupins instead of sunflowers
Coppa girl - if we buy where we want to go there will be plenty of adventures for Sophie - they may include seals and puffins
Paphos musueum - thank you - we find ourselves as excited as teenagers and ready for a set of fresh adventures with a sheepdog that will relish colder temperatures ( as will her human companions )
At first I was really sad at your news of a move - and it isn't even me that is moving. Now I have adjusted and am excited to be with you on new adventures - new quirks of the new neighborhood explored and new Sophie walks and "edibles" discovered. And all this from the safety of my little place in the world. Checking in with you each day brightens my life. Thank you for taking us along!
No-o-o-o! Say it isn’t so!
But it seems that it will be, so I will wish you and the Font well.
I echo Sillygirl’s” previous comments.
I can’t wait to read about the new adventures - they are how I start my day!
Best wishes!
Love the top picture of Sophie!
I too echo Faye’s thoughts. I don’t envy the task of packing your library. I will be sad at your downsizing as I love looking at your unique things. Perhaps as you downsize you could feature an item that didn’t make the cut and the story behind it. I suppose the black and-white C-A-T will transition to the new owners. Thank you for graciously sharing your adventures with all of us!
Seals and puffins, oh my!!! And lupin fields. Time for a Google map search. Like all your ardent followers, I feel a mixture of sadness at what you are leaving behind and all the folk we have come to know and worry about and excitement for your new adventures. Can't wait to hear about the next stages.
What a wonderful day: a break in the heat, a 9.4/10 croissant, a walk by the sunflower field, and new adventures ahead. Looking forward to the new Sophie's _______ Adventure.
I 🙏🏻 that all three of you will be blessed
each day as you have decided for a new location. 🙏🏻 that you find the best of everything where ever you call home.
I have been visiting your site daily for many years and so love reading your words, both the delights and the heartaches (I admit that I shed tears when Bob passed). How wonderful that you are excited about a new adventure. I am thrilled for you.
Although of course surely different than your possible locale to be, we live in a small village on a coast by the sea in a cooler climate with fields of lupines and seals and puffins — and our sheepdog could not be more thrilled with life here!
Oh my! I'm surprised at how sad I feel - but also excited to join in on the new adventures! I'm glad that TOF and TOM have each other to look after!
My sister and I can't help trying to guess where you might be moving. We each have our suspected countries and now we're anxiously awaiting to see who's right.
Oh so typical Angus to subtly mention big news at the end! Congratulations on your big decision. Now comes the sorting, dispersing of unwanted/unneeded items, and packing things up. Hopefully professional movers will do the heavy lifting and work.
We too are possibly moving but the destination has not been determined.
Oh how exciting! New to you everything. Makes me tingle with excitement for you.
