While Angus was away two large BMW's appeared outside The Rickety Old Farmhouse. They contained a famous Parisian couturier, a gaggle of staff and four long haired Dachshunds. To cut a long story short the Parisian already has a weekend house in the region, stumbled across this little hamlet surrounded by sunflowers and was taken by the sight of a certain wisteria clad house. Numbers were exchanged and that, 'The Font' believed, was the end of that. 'This is paradise' the Parisian gentleman said before he and his entourage and the dachshunds drove off. Sophie viewed the dachshunds with a degree of froideur bordering on disdain.
That's as far as it's gone. Let's see what the lawyer says about the seriousness, or otherwise, of this sudden and unexpected offer.
This morning black and white C-A-T is asleep outside the far gate. It leaps vertically onto the garden wall to avoid a PONette in full ears flying hunting mode. It goes without saying that the C-A-T was never in any danger. Sophie charges straight on oblivious to the C-A-T sitting on the wall.
This article on animals in this months Atlantic magazine was a delight. I can't find it on the website but you might be more patient than me :https://www.theatlantic.com/world/

Oh, boy, definitely didn't see that one coming!
Oh WOW! Well, if it's an offer "too good ro refuse" you have interesting times ahead, don't you?
Wow, that was a Monday morning curve ball.
Interesting times indeed.
Would the prospect of living in a more PON friendly climate reconcile Sophie to the prospect of the ROF being occupied by four dachshunds?

Angus' recognition of the 'wheels of fortune' turning and indicating time for a change is something I can totally understand and appreciate. We shall be waiting with the internet equivalent of bated breath to hear how things progress! YAM xx
How wonderful and exciting. You and the Font will, no doubt, have such interesting discussions coming up regarding this next potential 'turn of the wheel'
What a surprise!
The Old Farmer, the Old Mayor, Loïc, and so many others will be devastated to see you go.
Are you sure you want to head north? Some friends moved back to Scandinavia to be closer to family, and they found the first winter devastating. Later winters didn't so much improve as the friends just became numb (from cold, perhaps?).
Regardless of location, downsizing is wonderful.
Things like this happen for a reason. It was purely by chance that we bought our little house at the foot of the château in the Loire. I can definitely recommend the area.
Exciting times!
I like where you live now, just saying.
Wherever Sophie goes, we will follow!
Dying to hear which famous designer fell for the beautiful ROF.
Real estate pricing is so high here, happy hunting! XXX
My first thoughts about yesterday's comment of exciting times ahead were right! When I read that, I thought that a move may be on the cards. Much better to go when there's a firm offer on the table, and someone wants your house. The Old Farmer and the Mayor will both be devastated. I can't see the new owners having the same interaction in the village that you, The Font, and Sophie have, and who will have the key to open up the church?
We shall all miss the stories from your little corner of France Profonde, but perhaps you won't move far, and down-sizing makes sense.
Maybe you'll find somewhere where the croissants are a consistent 9.5/10, and the curly ends are bigger!
It’s funny how things like that happen. Something similar happened to us and our big old house in the mountains. A new chapter for Sophie and her humans.
I'm excited to hear what your next adventure will bring. I'm a bit of a sunflower-deep rooted and determined to stay in one place. I live vicariously through those that are willing to try something new.
Like others, my first thought was about how many of your fellow townsfolk will be devastated if you were no longer there for ladder borrowing. champagne sipping, church opening and all around good neighboring. Madame Bay. The Old Mayor. The Old Farmer. Lots of pros and cons to follow this knock of serendipity on the ROF door.
Well, yesterday I guessed correctly there would be visitors to TROF. However, I would NEVER have guessed the cast of characters in the remainder of this story! And the plot thickens. . . .
We will certainly miss your adventures with the townsfolk and your long walks through the countryside with Sophie. We hope that you wouldn't have the same experience of finding nice, affordable housing that we are having in the U.S. It is impossible to find anything, without paying a fortune. Everything is so over-priced - it's ridiculous!
We wish you the best, with the decisions awaiting you. Hugs for Sophie!
Well, and here I thought you might be getting visitors from the US. Cost centers and perhaps their cost centers...How far off I was! The idea of downsizing certainly makes sense; but leaving France Profounde?? How exciting to have this option arrive on your very doorstep!
I have read what others are saying. I just feel you live in a very safe place. You have a Vet that you trust and has been there for you. Moving isn’t always the answer. I will 🙏🏻🙏🏻 for you. Such a lovely place and quiet. Walking in all your locations are safe.

This message didn’t give my name. So I am trying to say I wrote this reply.
I admire your sense of adventure!
You are the village adopted son. There will be a loss.
You know I'd vote for a return to Scotland.
xx
I followed you and 'the Font' from Italy, I'll follow you wherever 'serendipity and the cosmos' takes you.
I can thoroughly recommend North Wales to which we relocated from Fife....St Andrews even ! Just don't try to learn the language as I am.
It seems this couturier is worth £ 248 million, so perhaps you'll want to counter his offer :)
