Enough sleep.

Another day of Dallas weather. Another morning without water. There's an emergency team from the water company already at work on the fire hydrant by the village green . I ask if we might get reconnected this morning. 'Not a hope mate ' says the foreman cheerfully before adding ' the pumps weren't designed for this heat. You'll need to wait until it cools down '. This isn't the answer I wanted to hear.  I feel like saying that there must surely be something they can do about it but my knowledge of the French terms for water pumps is limited, so I don't.

The recognition that we may be without water for some time  is  the cue for Sophie to be delivered into the shade of The Rickety Old Farmhouse while Angus heads off to the greengrocers to pick up  a dozen cases of Evian. He is the first in - and the first out. A tray of peaches is also acquired. The greengrocers mountain of Evian may well run out when late risers discover that the water is off again.

Angus stops off briefly at the modern bakers to pick up two croissants. One is eaten there. The other is taken home to Sophie and 'The Font' . The croissants are 'indifferent'.

On my return Sophie gets a second tour of the village. It's going to hit 40 again today and higher tomorrow. I check on The Old Farmer who seems to have spent the night sitting on the deck chair on his terrace. He claims to be alright but I leave a case of Evian for him and will check on him again this afternoon. I'm not convinced he's getting enough sleep in this heat. He seems a little slow on the uptake.

Sophie has now become accustomed to having her Kong(s) filled with frozen yogurt. Strawberry is adored but frozen peach is beyond words.

No water sounds like an excuse for an extra glass of wine from your cellar, plus Angus carrying buckets of water from the swimming pool inside the ROFH to flush the toilets! For Sophie, a good smear of peanut butter (with no artificial sweeteners which can be toxic for dogs) around the inside of her Kongs, plus smashed frozen banana stuffed inside is a flavour that was loved by my boys.

The Tour de France riders were suffering in the heat yesterday too. Better to relax in the shade with
a glass of wine and a jug of iced water by one's side, taking the occasional dip in the pool and ensuring the fur coated PON has a ready supply of frozen yoghurt.
Nobby and I are still happily clear of the heat danger area here in Aberdeen, although a high of 27C is forecast for Tuesday!

It's predicting 25 here in Aberdeenshire, after dog walk 1, dog has ensconced himself in the utility room. But his natural curiosity keeps bringing him back to the window.

...and strike me mesmerised, but there's a big ball of fire in the sky above the Hutch today - I wonder how long it will stay...? Hang cool all of you; and bless you for caring for the elder neighbour. YAM xx

Thank you for looking after the old farmer. You're good people Angus.

Being without water in such heat must be miserable. Thank goodness for the pool and to you for looking after the old farmer. I read the attached article with great interest. A true eye opener which offers great insight regarding the baseline of politics here in the US.

Thank you for checking in on the old farmer and leaving him bottled water. He may be a little dehydrated as well as sleep deprived. The European heat wave is making big news here in Canada.

Not the time of year to be without water.
34ÂșC and sunny here today, but there's a slightly cooling breeze which makes the shade more tolerable. Hope we'll be able to sit it out indoors with the windows open to the breeze this afternoon, without resorting to air con.
Were the curly ends of the slightly travel-weary croissant acceptable this morning?
Hadn't thought of frozen yoghurt for Inca, as it's not something I eat so never think to buy, but I'll try frozen mashed banana in her Kong.

I have enjoyed seeing all the sunflower photos you have posted, thank you! May your water be reconnected sooner than expected.
