The Old farmer detained.

A misty autumnal start to the day. Bob and Angus walk along the lane . We stop to look at the donkeys happily munching away in the recently cut sunflower field. We discuss politics and the difference between what is right and what is expedient.Angus comments on the fact the National Enquirer has, for the first time in its history, endorsed one of the US Presidential candidates. Bob is delighted to head home for breakfast.

On our way back we pass some large white flowered weeds. The flowers are very beautiful, the leaves a glossy green but the branches covered in fruits with sharp evil spikes. I'll need to ask the mayor what it is.

You'd think that the medication and enforced idleness might have dulled the lustre of Sophie's nose. Not bit of it. The divas nose remains world class in its cold wetness. We're in a good routine apart from the once a day widdle at 2:30 am. Things could be worse.

The new turf is soft and lush. It scores 10/10 with Sophie and her ever present guardian.

The Old Farmer and the Belgian Lady have had the most wonderful time . '' We did ten thousand kilometres " he says with evident pride.

The highlight of the trip was a visit to the grave of The Old Farmers father. Long time readers of the blog will remember that the father was a French prisoner of war who died on a forced march back towards Germany as the Red Army advanced . Today the graveyard is close to where the frontiers of Lithuania , Poland and Belarus intersect. As the Belgian Lady and The Old Farmer took photographs the local Security Police arrived. '' This is a forbidden zone ". Five hours held in solitary confinement, an impolite interrogation, disbelief at the implausibility of their story. An escort back to their hotel, a check at two in the morning to make sure they were there and not out spying.A tracking device fitted to the venerable Ford Transit motor home to monitor their movements. The requirement to check in daily with the police. '' He was so strong and brave " says the Belgian Lady in a tone of voice that tells me they will be travelling together again.

Just another day in a small French village.

PS. The Volkswagen garage didn't phone. No great surprise there.

Sophie's recuperating area is most inviting! The new turf is beautiful, and appears to be well enjoyed by both Sophie and her devoted brother, Bob.

Sophie, and her nose, look remarkably well considering all she's been through recently. We trust that the rest of the family's noses are also a good indication of brimming good health !
The Old Farmer certainly has some scary adventures on his travels.

"He was so strong and brave". How wonderful on so many levels.

Unfortunately, can understand the security police not believing the Old Farmer's story......

Doesn't the National Enquirer feature stories about Aliens abducting and probing people?

Life in France with it's beaurocracy and customer service has it's moments. It is, however, better than five hours detention etc for photographing a cemetary (and being robbed/house jacked).
So glad the turf arrived for Sophie's comfort. Just as well it was laid 'green side up'.

Just a wee mention, ANGUS - from the Westcoast of Canada. Noticing the tight bandage on the right front arm of SOPHIE. Having seen this many times when our dog has had a blood test, etc, etc, - and always being told to remove the bandage after about 30 minutes or so. Sorry to
interfere - but should this still be there? Worth asking the vets I think - for SOPHIE's comfort. Good thoughts to all four of you! Fingers crossed for best of luck.

'The Font' is down getting a new bottle of Maetcam. Will check with the vets when there. Thank you.

France is a wonderful place to live. It has been described as the most Nordic of the Latin countries and Britain the most Latin of the Nordic ones. There is some truth in that. VW is showing the Latin side of France off !

Re The National Enquirer. Alien abduction meshes perfectly with their endorsement.

Gallantry is still live and well.

Everyone is in fine fettle even if the human element are slightly sleep deprived. It's rather like being a new father again but without the energy of a late twenty something.

Most of all it's soft and wrm for a shaved undercarriage !

So nice that Sophie has settled into her recuperation routine...at least she's comfortable and still the centre of attention..Miss Diva.
What an ordeal for The Old Farmer and the Belgian lady, I guess they both have another adventure story to tell their friends...wow.

What a trip! Incredible. Sophie is looking grand even though she is casted up. Well done Bob for the brave guarding of his sister!

What a tale of adventure the Old Farmer and Belgian Lady have to share! I’m glad their journey turned out well.

The new turf does look very luxuriant. I would like to know the name of the white flowered plant, too.

And I’ve often wondered if you ever learned the name of the artist of the painting in the Berlin National Museum?

Angus said...

I haven't forgotten but the name of the artist doesn't appear in my notes and none of the law school boys jotted it down. The Deutsche Historische Museum website is hopeless. I'll send it to a friend in the embassy and ask him to go along one lunch hour.

What a fine recuperative spot for Miss Sophie!

Sophie will one day say of Bob, "He was strong and brave..."

We've felt like that every time we've had a new puppy !

Sharp eyes, catching the tape still on Sophie's right leg. I've always been told to take those off, as well.
Glad the Old Farmer and the Belgian lady returned safely. Perhaps the memo about the end of the Cold War hasn't yet gotten to the farther reaches of the Eastern zone?

So very true!
