A mystery.

The reconstructed 16th century pottery kiln has been restored and the area around tidied up ahead of the visit by the 'Beautiful Village ' judges. The roof tiles, which blew off the last time it was fired up, have been replaced.  Why anyone would build a roof over a furnace belching out super heated smoke is a mystery of French village life.

A cat has had a litter of kittens who have taken up residence in the safety of the furnace. Sophie is aware that somethings not right but she hasn't worked out there are c-a-t-s about. Unable to trace the source of the scent and meowing she skips off happily into the sunflower fields.

Today is the day for the trip to the fishmonger in the covered market. Every day is a high point in the PONs week but a trip to the fishmongers is a special occasion when canine nostrils can flare with wonder.

Two pieces of Loup de Mer are chosen for dinner.

On to the 'Italian lady ' for some ricotta and basil ravioli.

A man is selling ice cream cakes from a stall by the door. We stop to look at them but before we can make a decision he wanders off for a coffee with the girl from the cheese counter. '' I'll be back later mate " he says in a tone of voice that makes it quite clear a coffee with the cheese counter girl is infinitely more promising than selling anything to a foreigner with two shaggy dogs.

So when will the village next see the kiln in action?

Forgive me if I nit pick, but aren't there rather a lot of weeds between the slabs in front of the kiln?
The roof over the kiln at least protects the kittens from the elements, so it has some use !
