Christmas Carol #12

Overcast and windy as we venture out along the lane. The reindeer on the village green have gained a new companion.

A scarlet Santa has appeared on the bench outside the church. The retired deputy mayor is keeping his scarecrow making skills current and seasonal. The new arrival is certainly very festive.

Sophie  quickly determines that there are no Jaffa cakes. After that she displays Olympian disinterest in  this new arrival.

Christmas Carol # 12 sung by Jeff Buckley of Hallelujah fame. A mysterious carol that requires an exceptional voice. Rarely heard - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wxqwq9BnjT0

Not really a carol but certainly trendy and festive. The last time we ate at Kreuthers in NY a group of very quiet Korean teenagers were at a table next to us. They barely said  a word throughout dinner and were alarmingly well behaved. An army of 13 year old girls thronged the pavement outside and spilled onto the street blocking the traffic. We think they might have come along to see these folk who are , apparently, quite famous although completely unknown to us . https://youtu.be/y8pTFwksO7s

I've never heard that carol before, but it's lovely. BTS is HUGE over here, although I also wasn't very aware of them before last summer, when the K-POP fan armies mobilized to spam anti-Black Lives Matter sites in the US with K-POP videos. BTS themselves gave a million dollars to BLM, and their fans matched that amount. It's such an unlikely alliance, but somehow wonderful. Thank you for the idea regarding Bearded Collies. I've met a couple of Beardies (not in Japan) and they seemed similar to PONs but somehow goofier. I'm not sure if they are available here, but in any event, we need to find a much smaller dog that we can carry around so we can comply with the new building rules. Terriers are out because of our birds, and many of the more peaceable small guys are in the short-nosed category along with Tibetan Terriers. So we are now thinking about a small poodle. I was raised in a devoutly anti-poodle household, so this is difficult for me, but I now understand this was originally a working breed, developed to retrieve ducks, and that they are very smart. Even the silly show cut apparently has a working origin, designed to keep the head and chest warm when the dog was swimming in cold water. Who knew?

Lisa: miniature schnauzer? I can vouch for their absolute loyalty and high intelligence.

Santa doesn't look very happy - or impressed with his lone parcel! Can't blame Sophie not being interested either if there are no Jaffa cakes!

Today's carol is really special. Thank you!
I'm wondering if Lisa might consider a working cocker spaniel? Or would that be a problem with the birds? But I also think that a poodle could be a good option. When I took Bertie to Dog Agility training, there were some great little poodles, lively, intelligent, full of character, no dubious haircuts in sight!

How about a Lowchen? I'm rather taken with them myself.
xx

Stunning carol. Jeff Buckley had such incredible range. A great loss.
Not heard of the boy band either, but I wondered if they were miming?
I love the effort on the part of your Deputy Mayor.

We actually checked into Lowchen before we acquired Cherry, as it seemed like a terrific breed, but they don't seem to exist in Japan. Same with Havanese. I don't know why, since small dogs are such a thing here.
