Christmas Carol #7

We're up early talking to the Manhattanites. Break of dawn here. Late at night there. We return to the topic of Qatar and an office building on Madison Avenue. Usually, they'd be chained to their desks until Christmas Eve. This year they'll be working remotely. One will go to Nantucket and another to breezy  Wyoming. The CFO will jet off to Bozeman. The more junior participants will go to Hobe Sound  and Sisters .  I thought I knew America quite well but these last three places are total unknowns and could either be exotic or very dull. Angus covers his ignorance by saying ' How wonderful '.

Sophie yawns quietly to let it be known that it's time to stop the conversation and go out for her start of day comfort break. Today the family diva is infuriated by the thirty or so young sparrows who live in the eaves. They have discovered that if they tap against the zinc guttering with their beaks it makes an eminently satisfying drum like boom-boom-boom noise. Avian House music.  The PONette is enraged. There is a 'howling'. Outside, she chases imaginary things with panache. The sparrows, it goes without saying, are completely oblivious to this fluffy , irritated, presence. Sophie demonstrates her belief that box hedges should be charged through rather than leapt over or walked around. Never hope to have a pristine garden if there are PONs in the family.

Christmas  Carol #7. I'm not sure if it's a carol but the Swiss are very keen on it at Christmas. It also has a alpen horn which is rather unusual. This young man sings it with his eyes closed which is perhaps even more unusual.  Swiss music , like Swiss wine, is unique and in this case rather atonally beautiful : https://youtu.be/2rInxwe_C40?t=110

The ' wain pairing ' on this Christmas e-mail from one of our favourite restaurants caught my eye. When all of 'this' is over we will get in the big car and drive here , with Sophie, for dinner. Lots of pickled fish for 'The Font'. Angus will focus on the puddings. Sophie will be happy with whatever she gets. The restaurant seems to be surviving social distancing although it was ignored earlier in the year with dire consequences. The focus of the blog in 2021 will be 'Sophie discovers international cuisine after a year in lockdown' :https://www.operakallaren.se/en/restaurants/christmas/main-dining-room

Looking forward already to Sophie's take on different cuisines.

As long as there's no citrus flavours her view on different cuisines will be somewhere between excellent and wonderful.

I'm not sure if it's still the same restaurant, but I have been to the Operakallaren. Many (too many!) years ago admittedly, for lunch, but the name has stuck in my memory. I also remember lunching at a piano bar, which was all the rage in Stockholm in the late 60's, early seventies.
Sophie is such a lucky girl and we're sure she won't be in the least bit fazed by sophisticated International travel! We await her verdict on the cuisine of the various countries you'll be passing through to reach Sweden.

Like Sophie, and presumably Angus, one of the things I most miss during this time of stay-at-home is a really good meal in a restaurant. With a good glass of wain.

My guess is that Bozeman Montana is on the itinerary for skiing and Hobe Sound in Florida is probably to golf and warm up -- Sisters I seem to recall is somehow connected with Hobe Sound as a business or something along those lines near Jupiter Florida.

We are lucky in NZ, as we can still eat out , go to Christmas parties, movies etc.
