Home. Is there any better word ?

Home.

There is no better word in the PON vocabulary.

Thank you to everyone who has stopped by to comment. Thank you also to those who have recommended liver treatments. We have ordered some milk thistle. Other ideas gratefully received.

'We're pleased she's leaving' says the vet .  This can be taken in a number of ways but may reflect the fact that Sophie has for some time been making it audibly clear that she wants to get out of her cage. Clearly she didn't read the part of the script that says she's ill. Sophie is what the vet might describe as a ' difficult patient'.

Today is voting day in the French Presidential election.  The weather is bad which may lower the turnout. The incumbent is likely to be returned with 55% of the vote although younger and middle aged voters are unconvinced. In the small market town his poster has had some very impolite things written on it.

Angus, a second comment from me to use or ignore as you asked for ideas. Perhaps, until you find what is causing Sophie's liver issues, don't let Sophie drink any water you would not drink yourself (e.g. from the zinc trough or stream) as if you Google things (only reading informed sources about what high zinc and other chemicals do to humans and/or dogs) you will see zinc and other minerals can cause jaundice, liver issues, etc to build up. Instead, take a bottle of whatever you drink and a small bowl for Sophie to share your water with you on your daily walks. If Sophie hasn't drunk trough or stream water in previous months please ignore this. Wishing Sophie all the best.

Hugely relieved that she's well enough to go home on her own four feet.
Milk thistle is good. It won't "fix" anything, but it will help provide ongoing support for the liver function. It's good for humans, too. I second Riley's comment about avoiding water from a zinc trough, at least for now.

Such a massive relief to read that Sophie is home. Let's hope for no more big dramas this weekend in France...
Cheers, Gail.
PS Any word yet on the cause of Sophie's sudden illness. Did she eat something toxic?

So relieved to hear that "our girl" is home again. She will recover in leaps and bounds now and hopefully this has been just a one-off blip.
Agree it might be wise to watch what she eats and drinks when you're out walking.

I had refrained - but as you asked and others have offered... Yes, I said to Sophie herself a couple of comments back, she needs to rethink that hedgerow diving and field foraging... after all, you don't know where those things got their death from.

Milk Thistle is an excellent liver support herb - as is turmeric. If you can get a fresh tuber, grate, steep in hot water for half an hour then blend the lot and store it in a sterilised jar in the refrigerator. Give one teaspoon at each end of the day, directly if it will be taken (unlikely) or stirred into any favourite food. Yoghurt might be a goer!!! I might add that both these herbs are beneficial to humans also. If at all you are open to the Homoeopathic approach, Chelidonium is an excellent restorative for those with central digestive system disturbance; I would recommend 6c potency and two drops (or pillules if it comes that way) twice daily, for three days, then observe. (Allow me to sign off on that slightly officiously, but to reassure - and say that I can be reached via the contacts page on my blog.) Yamini Ali MacLean BSc(Health) AdvDHom ...

It seems likely to me that she ate something containing toxins given the liver's involvement and that her hedge and ditch foraging are likely to be the source. I'm glad she's home and on her own bionic legs. Not out of the woods yet though I imagine. Livers can be tricky.

Our wee girl is home with her flock!

As for being noisy at the vet hospital? That always brings joy
to my heart!

Such a great sign when your pet has the strength to complain.

Well done Sophie! XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

As glad as I am to see Sophie home, I am sure it pales in comparison to her owners and Sophie herself. You may be interested to explore the website yourolddog.com. It has a lot of helpful information about older dogs with liver disease and what they should and should not eat. Not that I want to imply Sophie is old. Divas don’t take kindly to such attributions.

Yea Sophie I knew you were a super dog. Maybe you can get Angus to let you have a whole croissant instead of foraging in ditches and drinking iffy water. We now have a lot of Bird Flu in Ontario Canada that starts in wild water birds and has now infected back yard chickens. You never know what toxin, virus or disease is around you. I'm sure if you asked nicely the Font would make take-away snacks to eat on your walks.

Angus, I am so sorry to read this news about Sophie, but I'm grateful she is home where she belongs -- Milk thistle is a good liver support. And I very highly recommend a product called "Denamarin* that would have the correct amount of milk thistle for her weight -- I've used this supplement for years for liver support and it can be purchased over the counter here in the US -- if you are unable to get it, I am more than happy to send it to you.

~Kim at Golden Pines~ said...

I'll add if it wasn't clear, that *Denamarin* is a product made for dogs.

So happy to see Sophie is home! I also have used Denamarin with my dog and agree with Kim that it would provide proper dosing for Sophie's weight. Denamarin contains SAMe as well.

Jake of Florida said...

So so happy that Sophie is home with her flock. Just realized that the Denamarin my 15 1/2 year old Joey has been on for over a year because of elevated liver values has milk thistle. So I recommend it too, if your vet agrees. Blessings on you all...and hopes the French electorate will stay the course as well.

I am thrilled beyond words at Sophie’s being home!

I completely agree with Kim regarding Denamarin product.

My dog was diagnosed with inoperable liver cancer. My vet recommended Nutramax Denamarin as a supportive measure for her liver. Her liver blood test numbers went down on a slow consistent basis. She also had very good results with another dog experiencing liver disease too.

It sounds like we all ought to be on Milk Thistle!! I'm so relieved she's home. She'll be relaxed, and therefore make better progress towards health with you.

Glad to see that Macron made it back. Europe has enough problems without further disagreements, I would have thought (looking from the other end of the world!)
