A thorough grooming lies in Sophies future. For the time being it can wait. Amid these freezing temperatures neither dog nor owner feel particularly keen on facing this daunting task. This morning the rescue dog ( pre-rescue ) look will suffice.
Ukraine the topic of conversation, again, with serious folks in Los Angeles and New York. If the pictures from Bucha are bad those from Mariupol will be worse. Angus wonders if things won't accelerate from here. Moscow wants to be able to declare victory by the VE Day commemoration on May 9th.
Ginger and black and white C-A-T-S peer at us from atop the woodpile in the barn. Usually their presence would be the cause of a 'moment' but this morning Sophie's completely oblivious to their presence. This must be something to do with the direction of the wind.
We go to the cafe at the shopping centre. Not our usual port of call but in this weather I'm not keen on venturing too far. There is a layer of melting frost on the table. This quickly turns into water as the sun rises. Both coffee and croissant score 6.8/10 which is respectable for a shopping mall. We're early so the chairs haven't yet been put out.
Sunday evening we dine, virtually, in Amsterdam :https://www.vinkeles.com/menu/

One struggles to take in the appalling images emerging from Ukraine.
Nobby sends Sophie bright and lively early morning greetings this morning. He thinks she looks just splendid.
PS The Amsterdam menu - bizarre in the extreme
Groomed or not, Sophie looks comfortable in her fur!
It's a long time since I've had croissant or coffee in a shopping mall, so I'll take your word for the fact that it's edible and drinkable! It has to be said that Inca would happily eat a 1/10.
This week I'm starting to collect bags of food to be taken to the Ukraine for the poor animals left behind. What terrible far reaching consequences this war is having.
Agree with Gail - that Amsterdam menu is bizarre!

Having watched Great British Menu this past few weeks - I would say such a menu might be considered standard in the 'fooderlatti' circles. That standard being pretentious!
I agree about what we are seeing/reading/hearing from Ukraine. It beggars belief that such a thing can still take place on our doorsteps... YAM xx

Sophie can rescue me anytime, such a sweet girl. Perhaps Russia can just declare victory and withdraw, go home. I am appalled by the world standing by while Ukraine is bombed into the stone age. World Central Kitchen has served over 6-million meals and is moving deeper into the fight.
My heart hurts watching the devastating images, the latest from Bucha beyond our contemporary comprehension. My ancestors were from the Chernihiv oblast and so I remember the souls of the long departed buried there and ache for those newly deprived of their lives.
Jose Andres is one of my heros. We've been donating to the WCK.
