One tough lady.

Sophie was on a  drip for a second night.

Yesterday, we spent an hour with her in the surgery. Sophie slept for much of the time but woke and howled when we made to leave. Uncanny.  The vet thinks this is a good sign. In fact he thinks this is a very good sign. She's one tough lady.

If all has gone well overnight she will be sent home - possibly this afternoon. The vets view is that the familiar scents and faces will speed her recovery. We'll then take things one day at a time. There's something seriously amiss with her liver but the cause remains unknown.

Her return can't come a moment too soon. The Rickety Old Farmhouse is a very quiet place without the PONette.

This sounds like very good news, but fingers and paws remain crossed as the vet tries to work out what caused the sudden crisis.
Extending a virtual hugs to Sophie and hope she's home soon.

Such great news, so pleased Sophie is on the mend.

Oh what a relief to hear she on the mend. I'm with the vet, at home she'll recover much faster. She'll want to chase C-A-T-S, take long walks and savour croissant ends in her near future !

Cautiously hopeful is always a tricky place to be. Best of luck and may it end with Sophie making a full recovery, even if the cause remains mysterious.

I woke up jet lagged at 3 am and immediately checked for this update. I am so glad to see Sophie looking a bit better. Nothing like what you are experiencing, but Cherry also had liver issues at one point. As I recall there weren’t really liver medications like what she could take for her heart, but we found some supplements in the US that she took with her vet’s blessing for many years. One was HepatoSupport, which is milk thistle, and the other was MaxxiSAMe, which is SAMe. We don’t know what effect they had, but her liver function did stabilize and we never had the big problem the vet initially feared.

The best news of the morning, and we know she will have the best.

Grateful and abundant relief. Sophie dear, you look exactly as I did the day after an emergency appendix removal. I don't believe I howled, but one can never be sure. Going home is always best. Fingers crossed. X

I hesitantly opened your blog this morning, not wanting to read the worst. What a relief to see frazzled Sophie sitting erect with a purple bandage on her leg. Best wishes to the entire family for smoother days ahead. And a big thanks to caring vets everywhere.

Like some others, I was afraid to open this morning’s posting for fear of what you would write. The photo of Sophie sitting up, a little bedraggled but alert, made me smile with great relief. For Sophie, “there’s no place like home.” May she return there shortly and be showered with unceasing attention and care from the rest of her flock as she continues to recover from her most frightening ordeal.

Sophie you look tired but determined - home with the flock is the best place for whatever comes next. We hope it does credit to that determined look you have and you have many more happy walks and curly croissant ends with Angus (and perhaps lay off the malt for now?) Paw smacks Mr T

Since we here in Texas are 7 hours behind you, I stayed up until midnight to get your Saturday post with the happy news about Sophie.

It occurs to me that Sophie's now 9 year old liver might be over burdened trying to filter out all the toxins present in the badger poo and decomposing voles, etc. Sophie manages to snack on during your walks. It's my understanding that those toxins can then build up in the liver instead of being eliminated. Just a thought...might ask the vet. Agree with Lisa about the use of milk thistle

Sophie's well being was my first thought of the day. This photo brought hope and guarded optimism. Thinking of the entire flock today.

It's a huge relief to see Sophie sitting up if a bit tired. I hope her recovery continues and that she returns quickly to the ROF. Also hope the vet identifies the underlying problem and has a treatment.
