No surprises

No great surprises in the first round of the French presidential elections. Village turnout was 100%. It's not that the villagers have a great interest in politics but what else are they going to do on a  Sunday afternoon ? There was also a village barbecue in the car park. An innovation introduced by the new mayor.  60% of the villagers voted for the President, 30% for LePen and the balance for Melenchon.

This morning the smell of charred lamb lingers in the air.  Last night the ladies of the Beautiful Byeways Committee opted to 'party' rather than clear up the grill. They will be back this morning. Sophie , who has taken up position so she can see everyone that passes along the lane, will be ready to greet them. Her nose is 'twitching' in anticipation.

We're into full on wild flower season. It's as if a switch has been flipped. The hedgerows displaying their finest.

No one could be more cynical about British politicians but this brief video is a reminder that in times like these there is nothing  despots fear more than a walk about , a handshake and a chat : https://twitter.com/DefenceU/status/1512867082932793347

Still waiting for the seasonal flower switch to be flipped here in the UK.
It's been a good week for Boris, what with the Ukraine visit and his rival's tax troubles back home.
What to read into yesterday's first round election result? Has there been a swing in the village?

The walk-about was very moving, whatever the motivation, and more so, I am sure, for the Ukrainians. The color contrast between all the olive drab and grey and Boris's blue suit and white shirt was oddly striking. Sophie's nose appears to be at its shiny best today.

For once Boris has done the right thing. A brave gesture of solidarity, to visit the war torn country rather than send support from afar.
Poor Sophie, the smell of charred lamb must be tantalising, so it's to be hoped there are some 9.6/10 curly croissant ends waiting for her.
Seasonal flowers abound here, although they are somewhat waterlogged.

A few roast trimmings for pretty little girl? I hope Borris took a planeload of anti-aircraft anti-ballistic missile missiles with him.

...yeah, Boris maximised the benefits of not actually being at war so getting as close to it as he could for a Churchillian photo-op. Sorry. I'm a total cynic where that buffoon is concerned. If he was a true friend of the nation, why is his government makking the path so difficult for refugees??? I don't deny the boost it gave to VZ and his countrymen though. Just keep praying that pundits are proven wrong and peace breaks out sooner than later. YAM xx

Is that a hint of pale purple on the wisteria in the first photo?

Such beautiful photos; Sophie seems a bit pensive. Yes, I think I see wisteria, too!
